Job Description: Embry-Riddle is now hiring an Assistant Director of Student Behavior and Staff Training in the Department of Housing and Residence Life at the Daytona Beach campus. This position requires the Assistant Director of Student Behavior and Staff Training to live on-campus. The staff member will be provided a university apartment.

Responsibilities include the following:

Student Conduct Administration

  • Coordinate residential student conduct process in collaboration with the Dean of Students Office
  • Review internal and external reports such as Resident Advisor incident reports, campus safety reports; determine alleged violations of campus and housing policies.
  • Assess level of alleged violation and assign appropriate hearing officers.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to department on best practices for conduct hearings and sanctions
  • Train hearing officers on university conduct process and protocol; occasional review of hearing officers cases to ensure completeness and consistency
  • Annually review and edit residential community standards
  • Serve as a representative on the annual review of the university honor code
  • Oversee education of the residential population on the conduct process, community standards, and university honor code.

Student Development and Training

  • Development, coordination, and implementation of student staff training including but not limited to:
  • Developing learning outcomes and objectives for each training session and the overall training experience.
  • Identify internal and external content matter experts to present on topic areas.
  • Communicate training expectations, deadlines, and schedules to department professional staff, campus partners, and other relevant parties.
  • Communicate training expectations and schedules to resident assistant staff.
  • Collaborate and internal and external parents on space/room reservations, meals, and other logistics.
  • Design and execute ongoing training opportunities throughout the academic year.
  • Assess individual training sessions in addition to the overall training experience in collaboration with the Associate Director of Residential Administration.

Student Leadership

  • Serve as the primary advisor to the Embry-Riddle Resident Student Association. This includes attending weekly executive board meetings, general body meetings, and holding one on one meetings with executive board meetings.
  • Serve as the primary advisor to the Riddle Chapter of the National Residence Hall Honorary. This includes attending weekly executive board meetings, general body meetings, and holding one on one meetings with executive board members.
  • Assist student leaders with the recruitment and retention of organization members.
  • Provide guidance and support of organization initiatives and events through the planning and execution, and assessment stages.
  • Serve as conference delegation advisor for all local, state, regional, and national student leadership conferences; provide support during the planning, travel, and after conference assessment process; serve as the full-time ERAU representative for student travel by attending conferences with the student delegation.

Administration

  • Communicate and respond to parent/guardian concerns and questions
  • Attend weekly and bi-weekly staff meetings, weekly one on one meetings with the Director of Residential Education, and committee meetings as assigned by department leadership.
  • Serve as a member of the mid-level manager's leadership team.
  • Responsible for communicating on-going room changes to department staff as well as students involved in the residence halls
  • Ensures all university employment responsibilities are complete including monitoring of personal leave, mandatory university trainings, and Purchasing card use (if applicable).

Crisis Response and Management

  • Participate in the department on-call crisis response and management rotation. This occurs on average once every 5 weeks. The on-call period is for 24 hours a day for 1 full week. The purpose of the on-call staff member is to provide guidance and support to the RLC on call staff for campus. Provide guidance on the response to emergencies that occur after hours including but not limited to, conflicts, medical emergencies, alcohol and other drug situations in the residence halls, and maintenance concerns.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in student development, Higher Education, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of related work experience in student support (housing or residence life)
  • Experience responding to crisis or serving in an on-call rotation.
  • Experience designing and implementing training presentations and on-going development plans.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with University Student Conduct processes or as a hearing officer in the Student Conduct process.
  • Experience advising student organizations.
