General Notes

The mission of the Microelectronics Research Center (MRC) at the University of Texas at Austin is to advance semiconductor materials and devices research by providing state-of-the-art cleanroom fabrication facilities for UT and the broader community. MRC is partially funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) through the National Nanotechnology Coordinated Infrastructure (NNCI).

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. The anticipated starting date is January 1, 2025.

Purpose

Manage the overall operations and administration of the MRC. Work closely with faculty and staff to ensure that research activities at MRC are carried out efficiently and effectively.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee MRC operations and administration, including equipment maintenance, SOP development, and upgrades, to ensure high uptime and support research activities.

  • Supervise MRC staff. Maintain high standards across the MRC team for customer service, safety, training, equipment operation, and process development.

  • Serve as the primary contact of a subset of cleanroom equipment, including user training and process development.

  • Advocate for the MRC and serve as a representative to various stakeholders throughout the university and beyond, including internal and external customers, other ORUs at UT, peer institutions, industry partners, and funding sources.

  • Oversee the center's industry and education outreach programs.

  • Measure the MRC's value and contributions by establishing metrics for success and monitoring core operations by these metrics. Report annually to the faculty and MRC advisory board.

  • Help seek and sustain funding for the MRC. Act as grant lead when appropriate and/or write proposals in partnership with faculty. Write progress reports and supply usage and instrumentation information for internal use, grants, and publications.

  • Other functions as assigned by the MRC faculty director.

Required Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Materials, or Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or relevant areas, and approximately 10 years of relevant experience in a semiconductor industry or an academic institution

  • Familiarity with basic cleanroom work environment, principles, and process development. Must have experience with lithographic patterning, deposition, etching, and metrology equipment and processes

  • Five (5) years of experience supervising staff

  • Five (5 years of experience in the management and administration of a cleanroom

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. A Ph.D. with fewer years of experience or a Bachelor's with more experience can be considered.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. Degree

  • Experience leading teams to achieve results in a technical discipline

Salary Range

$140,000 + depending on qualifications

Work Shift
  • This position is a full-time, in-person role at the Pickle Research Center. Hours will generally include Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
