- Executes significant projects that align with CEO's strategic priorities for the UMMH system at all levels of the organization.
- Works with Operations to identify key projects and help them set priorities.
- Maintains detailed records of all Lean and Lean Six Sigma (LSS) projects.
- Collaborates with other team members in overall project standards.
- Performs statistical and other in-depth root cause analysis, develops conclusions, and is able to present the information clearly.
- Executes defect analysis and key metric creation.
- Develops recommendations to support initiatives, requirements, and sustainment of improvement work.
- Produces project status reports for executives and stakeholders. Ensures on-time, in-scope delivery of proposed solutions.
- Leads project work independently.
- Facilitates sessions at all levels for planning, mapping, business process redesign, Kaizen events, continuous improvement, Lean thinking, cycle time reductions, and similar improvement approaches to simplify and improve targeted areas.
- Uses knowledge of Industrial Engineering, Process Engineering, Lean, statistical data analysis, and theory of constraint best practices in redesigning value streams.
- Acts as a change agent with all levels of UMMH & constructively challenges current thinking/resistance.
- Teaches Yellow, Green, and/or Black Belt level Lean training as part of Umass Memorial's Lean Training program. Coaches Green Belt Candidates. Partners with the Manager, Innovations Programs for curriculum design and continuous improvement of the Lean Training program.
- Coaches managers and teams on the UMass Memorial idea system, and our improvement system platform, Innovation Station (KaiNexus).
- Collaborates with system leaders and the Manager, Innovations Programs for idea system improvements, goal setting, and strategy. May act as an end-user system administrator for the platform.
- Participates in and may take a leadership role in improvement recognition, communication, and sharing programs, including our annual Innovator of the Year event.
Position Qualifications: License/Certification/Education: Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Technical field, Statistics, Healthcare, or Business Administration.
- Black Belt Certification from a nationally recognized organization or company in the field of Lean Six Sigma.
Experience/Skills: Required:
- 3-5+ years' experience as a certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt or Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification with relevant experience leading successful cross-functional project teams.
- 3 + years' experience facilitating and leading improvement projects with sustained, quantifiable results including significant change.
- Advanced ability to conceive and collaboratively develop a strategic plan. Advanced ability to persuade and influence others to execute the plan. Advanced analytical, problem solving, and negotiation skills.
- Expert knowledge of best practices in the following fields: DMAIC, DMADV, Theory of Constraints, Lean, root cause analysis, applied statistics, Kaizen events.
- Extensive expertise in Excel; experience with or ability to quickly learn Minitab.
- Confident and adaptable with regards to learning new technologies including remote meeting platforms, virtual collaboration tools, file-sharing platforms, learning & collaborating platforms, and AI opportunities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop productive, inclusive, and respectful working relationships across diverse groups at all levels of the organization.
- Develop and articulate clear and concise presentations to a broad range of individuals including front line personnel and all key executives.
- Ability to identify and prioritize key customer/patient issues to be addressed by projects and processes.
- Ability to recognize implications of business plans and decisions. Full working knowledge of various software and spreadsheet applications used in process mapping, process design / redesign, and workflow management.
- Superior teamwork skills, both as a leader and a team member, combined with a track record of success. Effective Change Management skills.
- Strong sense of ownership and high-level of accountability. Ability to work independently and to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred:
- Experience in a patient-facing healthcare organization.
- End-user system administration, configuration, or design of software platforms such as KaiNexus, a Learning Management System, or collaboration system.
- Expertise in Minitab and Tableau.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or business analysis experience.
